Whiplash happens when your body suffers from an abrupt jolt. Most whiplash injuries happen when you are sitting in a fixed position in your car and are rear-ended by another car.

As your head is thrust back in a rear-impact collision, your brain is literally bounced forward by the back of your skull! As your head jolts forward, extreme forces are placed on your cervical spine, nerve roots and muscles.
When this “whipping” action occurs, it causes damage to the already extremely fragile neck structure and the muscles react by tightening to guard the injured area. This protects the damaged area from further injury.
